Promises for 2018

So, I know this is late in the year. But with going back to uni, and all of the other crazy changes happening in my life, I think it is a good time to make some promises to myself, for the rest of 2018.

1. Stop comparing myself

Whoever wrote that comparison was the thief of joy was a bloody wise man. Jealousy is a nasty beast and it can take hold on any aspect of your life. I have been jealous about instagram, blog views, all manner of things. I even stopped reading books this year because I couldn’t cope with my inadequacy as a writer, in comparison to these New York Best Sellers. But, I am back at reading, and a little perspective has truly helped me see that I am only running my own race. This particular promise to myself is to keep that going.

2. Focus on studying

It is my final year of uni, and it is crunch time. I can see that degree, so close I could almost touch it. But I have to keep up my standard of dedication in order to get the grade I am hoping for. But, for my course (I study Journalism BTW) it is not just about studying and reading books. It is creating new ways to convey information, being creative with the news, making it fun for the reporters and developing my skill as an editor. So I promise to myself that I will keep my eye on the ball and ensure that I do my best for my degree.

3. Lean into my aesthetic

I am moving into a new flat and I have come to the realisation that I really am an old man, who loves leather bound books and dark stained wood. I love homey, cozy interiors and I am going to keep this in mind for my new place, to make sure that it becomes my little cocoon.

This comes along with throwing some of my old decor away. I find this so difficult, so I am going through the process of thanking my objects (Jenna Marbles hair dryer style) and donating them to charity.

But this is not only about interiors, I am completely changing my wardrobe too! That has meant investing in more vintage reproduction! And I definitely promise to myself to continue this transition!

4. Get my booty into the gym

Now, this one seems to be the pipe dream of everyone making a list of promises, but I am being serious. I have a gym on site at my new flat and I now have no excuse when it comes to the treadmill. But, this is not quite as simple as you might imagine. For the first time in my life, I really am quite happy with my body, so it is not that I want to lose loads of weight. But, if I know myself, it is not going to take a lot for me to start thinking negatively about myself, and wanting to look like the fitness models on Insta, which is just not a reality for me. So I will have to keep you updated on my progress on this one.

5. Keep it up with the social media

I have had some pretty great growth on social media this year, for so many different reasons. This is something I want to carry on with, without falling into the nasty trap of comparing myself. I think a lot of Hootsuiting, to schedule posts is going to really help me with this one.

So those are a few of my promises to myself this year. I also want to continue being kind and experiment with food. But we can talk about that in another blog post!

Make sure to leave your promises to yourself in the comments section!

I’m hoping to get back into youtube once I am in my new place, so please do let me know what kind of videos you would like to see!

Until next time, make sure to check out my Insta and Twitter and…
Stay Peachy,
